Our Story

Our story

Lauren (The American) and Joachim (The Dutchman) met eight years ago in the bar of the journalism school they were studying at in Aarhus, Denmark.

Joachim's first words to Lauren? "Weren't you blonde before?" Lauren had dyed her hair brown spontaneously in the sink of her dorm (as you do at 20) a week prior. The conversation that followed turned into a first date. They ate moules frites and for no rational reason talked about komodo dragons for an hour straight. That turned into two months of being inseparable. When it was time for them both to leave Denmark, they spent a year doing long-distance between San Francisco, Utrecht and Willemstad.

A year later, and they moved into a tiny apartment in Paris at 21 and 22. When Lauren's Master's in France was nearly done, Joachim spent months researching, writing letters and collecting documents so that she could stay in Europe with him. They moved to Amsterdam  – Joachim's birthplace– and Lauren was approved for permanent residency. Throw some cats into the mix and the rest is history.

We kindly request that everyone dress semi-formally in black, white or cream. We know it's an unusual ask from a bride and groom, but this colour scheme will help us set the mood for the day. Have fun with your look: it is a celebration, after all!

(cadeaulijst)

Dear Friends and Family,

Thank you for sharing in our joy as we tie the knot. If you are considering a gift, we'd be honoured by a contribution to our honeymoon or house fund, which will help us build our future together. For your convenience you can contribute below via our online Thankful registry. Alternatively, if you prefer a cash gift (or Tikkie for the Dutchies!) , that's equally appreciated.

Your support and presence on our special day mean the world to us.

With love,

Joachim and Lauren
